Extractions
Dental extractions are performed for a variety of reasons. With deep tooth decay, sometimes a tooth can be saved by performing root canal therapy. Other times tooth decay has destroyed enough tooth structure, so that there is no suitable alternative to extraction. Another reason for extraction is if there is severe gum disease which affects the supporting tissues and bone structures of teeth. "Wisdom teeth" or third molars usually appear between the ages of 17 and 24. These are commonly extracted when they affect other teeth, or are situated in a way that they cannot be kept clean. |
