Laser
There are many uses for a soft tissue laser in the dental office. Lasers are used for patients with gum disease to remove bacteria. Lasers are more accurate than a scalpel or drill and allow the dentist to conserve as much bone and tooth as possible. When used for surgical procedures, pain is lessened, bleeding and swelling are minimized, and the need for anesthesia is reduced in some cases. It is also used for cosmetic procedures to modify or reshape the gums to a more aesthetic appearance. A biopsy or lesion removal can also be done with this laser. A small piece of the suspicious lesion is removed with the laser so that it can be examined for cancer.
